Pricing
Priced by what a sitemap costs to build
Two things drive our cost, and both are on your plan: how many storefronts you run, and how many URLs we rebuild for them. Every plan gets the whole engine.

Why storefronts and URLs are the meters
A storefront is the unit you already think in: a brand, a domain, an audience. Each one gets its own sitemap set, rebuilt on its own schedule, so it maps to what you get and to what it costs us at the same time.
URLs are the other half, and the honest one. A rebuild is a full read of your catalogue followed by writing and publishing every sitemap file — the work scales with the number of URLs, not the number of brands. A store with three storefronts and 800 URLs costs a fraction of a store with three storefronts and 80,000. Charging both the same would mean one of them subsidising the other.
Every product, collection, page, blog and article that Umbrella lists in a sitemap counts once. The app shows the figure beside your allowance on the Dashboard and in Settings, so it is never a surprise.
Published languages count too, because they are separate URLs. Shopify serves every page again under a locale prefix like /fr/products/…, and Umbrella publishes those URLs because Shopify lists them only in the sitemap Umbrella suppresses. So the figure to compare against a plan is your catalogue multiplied by your published languages: 3,000 URLs with French and Spanish published is roughly 9,000, with no product added. Countries, markets and currencies do not multiply anything — only published languages and market subfolders create additional URLs. The measured detail.
What happens if you go over
Your sitemaps list your plan’s allowance and stop there. If your plan covers 1,000 URLs and your catalogue has 1,400, the sitemaps carry 1,000 and the remaining 400 are left out until you move up a plan.
We say plainly what that costs you, because you should decide with the real number in front of you: Umbrella’s robots.txt suppresses Shopify’s own sitemap, so a URL that is not in ours is not being advertised to a crawler from anywhere. Those pages remain live and reachable, and links to them still work — they are simply not listed for discovery.
You are told, not surprised. The app shows your URL count against your allowance on the Dashboard and in Settings from the day you install, and we email the store owner when the count passes the limit, stating how many URLs are affected. Nothing about it is silent.
Two ways out, and both are yours to choose: move to a plan that covers your catalogue, or remove Umbrella — in which case also remove its robots.txt template, so Shopify’s own sitemap starts serving again.
Storefronts work differently. That limit is applied when you try to connect a new storefront, never by disconnecting one you already have.
What rebuild frequency actually buys
One rebuild a day is automatic on every plan. The rest are yours to press. Umbrella rebuilds once a night, in your store’s own timezone, whatever you pay. What a higher plan adds is builds you control: on Scale one more, on Portfolio two more, taken whenever you want them from Build sitemaps in the app. Publish forty products at eleven in the morning, press rebuild, see them listed — and still get that night’s scheduled run.
The count is per day, and it resets at midnight in your store’s timezone. Using a manual build never postpones the scheduled one. On Launch the single daily build is normally the scheduled one — and if it did not run, you can still spend it by hand, which is the point: a one-build plan should survive a bad night on our side, not just on yours.
One a day is not a compromise. Search engines fetch a sitemap on their own schedule — hours to days apart — so a sitemap that is never more than a day old is, for discovery purposes, equivalent to one rebuilt every ten minutes.
Higher tiers buy responsiveness you can observe in the app, which matters most while you are actively editing a catalogue: publish forty products, hit rebuild, see them listed. It is a difference in how quickly the tool answers you, not a difference in what a crawler does with the result.
Changing plan, and leaving
Upgrades, downgrades and cancellation all happen in your Shopify admin, not here. Shopify handles the proration; the change reaches Umbrella within seconds and your entitlements move with it.
Cancelling stops the subscription at the end of the period you have paid for. Uninstalling preserves your configuration, so reinstalling does not mean rebuilding every brand by hand — and if you would rather it did not, you can erase everything immediately from Settings › Remove Umbrella data.
If you remove Umbrella, remove its robots.txt template too. Leaving it in place with the app gone would suppress Shopify’s own sitemap with nothing publishing a replacement. Umbrella saves your original as snippets/umbrella-robots-backup.liquid in your theme so you can put it back.
Questions about billing
Who charges me, you or Shopify?
Shopify. Umbrella uses Shopify Managed Pricing, so the plan appears on your Shopify invoice alongside your other apps and you manage it from your Shopify admin. We never see a card number and we do not process payments.
What happens at the end of the trial?
The plan you selected begins and Shopify charges it on your next invoice. Cancel at any point during the ten days and you are not charged at all. The trial grants the top tier so you can judge which plan you actually need rather than guessing.
Do I need a separate plan for each brand?
No. One subscription covers your store and every storefront on it, up to the plan’s limit. That is the point — the alternative you are avoiding is one Shopify subscription per brand.
Is there a free plan?
No. Umbrella does nothing useful with one storefront, so a free tier limited by features would be a tier nobody could evaluate. The ten-day trial is the free version, and it is the whole product.
Do you offer annual billing or a discount for more storefronts?
Not today. If you are running more than ten storefronts, or your catalogue is past half a million URLs, write to us — those cases are worth talking about individually rather than guessing at a price for.
Can I get a refund?
Ask. Billing runs through Shopify, so a refund is a request we make to Shopify on your behalf; we will make it if the product did not do what this page says it does. The ten-day trial exists so this question comes up as rarely as possible.
Not sure it applies to you?
Umbrella is for merchants running several brands from one Shopify store. If that is not you, it will not help, and we would rather say so now. Ask us with your domains and you will get a straight answer.
